Amongst bare subsoil and sparse, occasionally mown, grasses, herbs and young vines and shrubs to 60cm. 17°5'43.3"N, 89°4'26.4"W Alt :101 m Apparently annual, 20-40 cm high, upright, white latex present in stem and leaves, reddish tinge to stems and older leaves. Population of approx. 12 plants over a 5 x 3 m area. Growing with: Hammelia patens, Calea spp., Commelina sp., Sida sp., Convolvulous sp., Melochia sp., Paulinia or Sargentia sp., spp. of Poaceae, sp. of Vitaceae. BELIZE: Cayo: 1km north of Las Cuevas Research Station. On a hilltop, west facing, very exposed, scrubby vegetation with A bracken, Tournefortia, Cecropia, Boconia. On limestone. 700 m., Herb 0.5-0.75m tall, locally common. White latex. Stem has lots of tiny white dots on dark green, a bit hairy. Leaves a little reddish at the base. Lower side of leaf main vein sharply raised, Flowers bright neon pink, inside of corolla and stamens hairy. Green 3-part ovary halfway up the pink style. Semi-open oak woodland. Abundant Quercus oleoides to 3 m, occasionally to 10 m, Acoelorraphe wrightii 5 m, occasional Byrsonima crassifolia 2-5 m & rare Pinus caribaea 5-10 m. Herb layer dominated by mix of sedges & grass with abundant Cassytha filiformis. Heavily disturbed: evidence of gravel extraction, piles of gravel, artificial drains, tracks & invasive weed species.
