South-facing roadside, in tropical evergreen, lowland, seasonal,
broadleaf forest: Yucatan variant, frequently cut back and
disturbed. Growing in association with Leandra mexicana,
Clidemia capitellata, Clidemia hirta, Arthrostemma ciliatum &
Clidemia dentata.
Altitude: 100m
Red clay-based soil in floodplain of tributary to South Stann
Creek, granite bedrock with occasional limestone pockets.

dominated by Anthurium sp., Psychotria elata & Synecanthus

the main lodge house. Specimen found on the north edge of
the track. 448 m

Short tree 2-3 m. Greyish bark with fine vertical lines. Sticky
white latex present. Plant has no distinctive smell. Pistillate
flowers, species dioecious but sometimes pistillate and
staminate flowers on the same tree. In the area there was a
trend for a larger number of pistillate trees than staminate
trees. The flower buds are different compared with staminate
flower buds. Petals and sepals indistinct and caducous with a
light green/yellow colour. 5 staminodes were often seen
present on individual flowers but some had no staminodes.
The number of carpels in each flower varied from 4-5 even on
the same inflorescence. The fruit has a dark green colour
when young and is septicidally dehiscent. NB> see collection
S.P. Sylvester 2 for the staminate flowers. Submontane pine
savannah. Track verge open to sunlight and surrounded by
low scrubby vegetation with exposed soil. Soil is sandy and
acidic from a granite bedrock.

Submontane elfin forest, exposed summit dominated by
Purdiaea belizensis, Clusia sp & Ternstroemia tepezapote.
Numerous epiphytes, filmy ferns and bryophytes. Thin soil over
granite rock covered with a thick, spongy layer of mosses.
Dominant tree species, very common, 6m multi-stemmed tree.
Copious pale yellow sap.

Montane forest, east facing slope, approximately 45 degree slope, soil
under plant was inaccessible due to slope, but surrounding soil was high in
poorly decayed organic matter on granite stone.

Wide spreading tree or shrub, approximately 4-6m wide by 2-8m high. Off-
white sap, very sappy. Flower stalks yellowish green, flowers red when
mature, very typical of Clusia.
