Open woody savanna with scattered palmetto; with frequent
Acoelorraphe wrightii (5 m), occasional Byrsonima crassifolia (6
m), Curatella americana (3 m), rare Pinus caribaea (to 20 m)
providing <10% cover. Herb layer dominated by sedges
providing 80% ground cover. Evidence of past inundation, and
lots of anthropogenic disturbance including cutting & past
burning.
Alt.: 45m
Frequent shrub to 1 m around palmetto; numerous branches
from base; flowers with 4 calyx lobes, 4 white petals & 8
magenta/purple anthers. Ants feeding off flowers.

Medium dense oak & pine savanna with shrubs. Frequent Pinus
caribea, abundant Quercus oleioides to 5-8 m (-12 m). Shrub
layer of Byrsonima crassifolia, Curatella americana, Calliandra
houstoniana and Myrtaceae; all to 2 m. Herb layer dominated by
grasses and Cassytha filiformis. Well drained.
Alt.: 30m
Frequent shrub around oak, to 70 cm with numerous stems
arising from base; shallow system of roots in top soil layer;
& flowers with white petals, magenta stamens and long, persistant
style; young fruit pink.

South-facing roadside, in tropical evergreen, lowland, seasonal,
broadleaf forest: Yucatan variant, frequently cut back and
disturbed. Growing in association with Leandra mexicana,
Clidemia capitellata, Clidemia hirta, Arthrostemma ciliatum &
Clidemia dentata.
Altitude: 100m
Red clay-based soil in floodplain of tributary to South Stann
Creek, granite bedrock with occasional limestone pockets.
Large herb up to 1m.

Submontane elfin forest, exposed summit dominated by
Purdiaea belizensis, Clusia sp & Temstroemia tepezapote.
Numerous epiphytes, filmy ferns and bryophytes. Thin soil over
granite rock covered with a thick, spongy layer of mosses.
