Habitat: Common on a shady moderate east facing hillside in light gravelly soil with Aralia californica, Pinus sp and Woodwardia fimbriata.
Description: From a deciduous shrub to 2m x 4m with obovate leaves 9cm x 3cm, mid green glossy above, mid green below, seed a cylindrical capsule 1.5cm x.5cm light green to brown.
