Habitat: Along stream in primary evergreen forest, in sandy soil.
Description: Spreading herb to 2.5 m tall. Pseudostem 20-50 cm apart. Basal 1/3 of pseudostem leafless, base swollen, c. 3 cm in diam. Lamina up to 35 x 5 cm. Ligule 1 cm long, petiole 3-8 mm long. Inflorescene radical, peduncle 3-5 cm long, spike 7-8 cm long, with 20-21 flowers. Involucral bracts 5-10 per inflorescene. Bract 45 x 8 mm, red; bracteole tubular, white; calyx 45 mm, white. Flower 6.5 cm long. Floral tube, white at base, pinkish red towards tip. Dorsal corolla lobe 21 x 5 mm., red, lateral corolla lobes 19 x 3 mm, red. Labellum 3.3 x 2 cm, dark orange at margin, dark red in the middle. Epigynous glad 4-5 mm long. Anther 6-7 mm long, angled c. 130° to the filament; anther thecae c. 7 mm long; anther crest absent; filament c. 4 mm long, 4 mm broad at base, 2.5 mm broad at top red. Stigma heart-shaped, ostiole front facing, 1.5 x 2 mm, very dark red, style red.
