Habitat: Disturbed forest near road.
Description: Terrestrial herb. Leafy shoot to 4 m long, to 20 cm between neighbouring shoots. Base to 6 cm diam. Sheath brownish at base, green with purple patches higher up. Ligule to 1.5 cm long. Petiole to 3.5 cm long. Lamina to 70 x 15 cm, mid-green; base rounded, oblique. Inflorescence peduncle to 7 cm long, spike 9 x 5 cm. Young fruits at base while flowering above. Peduncular bract pale reddish brown. Bracts pale reddish orange, margin dark red. Axis pale golden. Bracteole pale orange, apex dark red. Calyx cream, apex pale red. Corolla tube cream, lobes pale yellow in upper part. Staminal tube cream. Labellum pale yellow, bright yellow in centre, apex inrolled. Stamen and stigma cream. Infructescence subglobose, 9 x 8 cm. Fruit to 2 x 2.5 cm, spiny, pale brown, golden pubescent, immature.
