Collecting locality: Indonesia:Central Sulawesi [Sulawesi Tengah]:Kannawongu, 2 km W of Wuasa.

Habitat: Secondary forest, bank of small stream.

Description: Terrestrial herb in clump (to 10 cm between neighbouring leafy shoots). Leafy shoot to 4 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 6 cm diam., red. Sheath dark purple. Ligule to 3 mm long, truncate. Lamina sessile, to 83 x 13 cm, mid-green, not plicate, midrib purple; beneath pale green and pubescent; base cordate and clasping the pseudostem. Inflorescence from rhizome, peduncle subterranean, to 20 cm long, ascending, pale greenish red, dark red at apex. Spike to 7 x 9 cm, strongly mucilagenous. Receptacle 15 mm long. Bracts greenish, almost black at apex, mucronate. Flowers extended 2 cm above bracts. Fertile bract from - pale green to cream, apex brown. Bracteole cream, apex pink. Corolla pale red; lobes pale red, darker red at apex. Labellum pinkish, cream at base. Filament pale reddish brown. Anther cream. Stigma white.
