Habitat: Montane forest on ridge with many mosses incl. Dawsonia.
Description: Terrestrial herb. Rhizome at ground level, brown. Leafy shoots to 1.65 m long, 6-10 cm between neighbouring shoots. Base to 1.5 cm diam., red-brown. Sheath yellow-green. Ligule 8 mm long with conspicuous dark purple patch extending a bit below. Lamina to 35 x 7 cm, not plicate, mid-green, pubescent beneath. Inflorescence from rhizome, 1 flower open at a time. Bracts reddish brown (sometimes pale brown and fertile bract with greenish apeces). Bracteole and calyx membranous, pale pink. Corolla tube pale pink, lobes pink at apex. Labellum dark pinkish red. Stamen pale pink. Stigma white. Taste of the centre of leaf base: peppery, sour. Also seen up to 2700 m.
