Description: Clump-forming herb c.80 cm tall, with c.20 stems/clump, 3-8 leaves/stem, rhizome red, rhizome sheaths brown, stem green, ligule thick coriaceous, brown, lower surface of leaves light green, bracts overlapping in two symmetrical rows, red, all parts of flower yellow, except bract, bracteole and calyx light pink
