Habitat: Roadside in primary forest.
Description: Terrestrial herb with 4 shoot in clump (15-20 cm between neighbouring shoots). Leafy shoot to 4.5 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 3.5 cm diam., red. Sheath green. Ligule to 13 mm long. Petiole to 15 mm long. Lamina to 77 x 7.5 cm, pubescent on both sides. Inflorescence from base. Peduncle to 9 cm long, subterranean, scales brown. Spike 3 x 4 cm, bracts greenish brown. Fertile bract pale brown and golden at base. Bracteole pale brown. Calyx cream, pale brown at apex. Corolla tube cream, lobes pale red at apex (5 mm). Staminal tube white. Labellum white, tinged pink. Stamen and stigma white. Hairs at apex of thecae seems to be pushing pollen out. Taste of centre of leafy shoot base: turpentine, pine.
