Description: Clump-forming herb c.1.2 m tall, with 5-7 stems/clump, 12-13 leaves/stem, shining, dark green, rhizome brown, leaf sheath reddish-green, ligule green, inflorescence in peduncle to 15 cm long, peduncle sheath red, bract dark brown, calyx yellowish-white, corolla yellowish-white, lip with lines of red dots from throat and along centre, prickly fruit dark reddish-violet
