Habitat: Forest, on river bank.
Description: Terrestrial herb, 2-3 m, moderately creeping: 40 cm between shoots, rhizome reddish-brown. Base swollen 3-4 cm, with well-developed supportive roots, pale yellow-green with red speckles. Shoot leafless lower third, with 8-12-22 leaves per shoot. Sheath pale yellow-green with red speckles, ligule green, unilobed, 15-17 mm; petiole (2.5)-4-(5); lamina reduced at lowest leaf, max 50 cm by 16 cm, pubescent on both sides, slightly plicate, base -unequal, 1-7 mm. Inflorescence from rhizome, near base. Peduncle 8-12 cm, -horizontal then adscending. Peduncular scales yellowish to pale pink with brown or reddish-brown tips (6-8 pairs). 4-6 flowers open at one day. Lowest bracts 3-3.5 by 2-2.5 cm, Fertile bracts up to 4 by 2 cm, reddish-brown or greenish brown with darker tips. 50-70 flowers per inflorescence. Flower 8 cm long, calyx yellow-green, corolla lobes with dark red tips, labellum warm-yellow, lateral lobes in-rolled, tip dark red; anther yellow with dark red, narrow crest; stigma red. Vernacular name: Tepus kenyalang (Iban).
