Habitat: Roadside slopes
Description: Terrestrial shrub with arching branches to 2 m long; stems with odor of anise; rachis, pedicels & calyx green heavily suffused with purple; floral bracts, bracteoles & corolla tube dark wine-red; corolla limb & lobes whitish-red; young calyx lobes secreting a white, viscid latex; berry purple. Scattered, but common.
