Collecting locality: Ecuador:Between Asorgues and Canar.
Habitat: Growing either in north dense turf, the single stemmed small plants or on fairly recently disturbed banks of a well-broken south clay soil .
Description: Small plants unbranched with single straight, vertical rootstock and upright stem to 28 cm tall, darkly pigmented, one bearing a small tuber. Larger plants branching and rather bushy habit to 35 cm through with running stolons throwing up smaller plants. Leaves hairless, glossy, the edged slightly curved under 1-2 jugate. Flowers very numerous, corolla purple, star slightly darker, 2-3 cm diameter, anthers 5 mm long. berries few, not mature, oval. Leaves dark green above quite light below.
