Omphalogramma vinciflorum (Franch.) Franch.
Type of Primula viola-grandis Farrer & Purdom
Collector/Expedition: Farrer, Reginald John
Collection number: 74
Collection date: 3rd September 1914
Country/Territory: China
Description: This noble Omphalogramma expands fully in late summer, very thick & flanelly leaves of a deep dusty opaque green with lighter veins, remarkably suggesting those of some flat viola of the Hirta group but lying out on the ground, too heavy for their flushed fleshy & stalwart peduncles. The capsule is apparently round, the calyx fringed with many teeth: the sp. with its almond throat, is not at all a free seeder. One rocky shelf, that had been blue with blossom, yielded only some 7--8 seed-stems. Fl. May: seed nearly all gone, Sept.3.
