New Zealand: Aciphylla collection site on slopes below Mount Cardroma ski resort. Subalpine tussock grassland and improved pasture. 1400 m. 44°52'44"S, 168°57'36"E Female perennial rosette herb forming clump to 1.5m wide, in groups Gf up) to) 7; flowering stem to 2.2m, yellow brown with \ red tinges, stalk to 10cm diameter at base, ‘ inflorescences broad - narrowly conical. Populations showing large range of variations :- leaves with stipules up to 15cm but everything from almost absent to 15cm on the same plant.
