In full sun on light loam on a very steep west facing open mountainside, cut over and grazed, with scattered Abies pindrow, Quercus semecarpifolia and Acer caesium. 3115 m. Evergreen shrub growing horizontally to 5m with pale silvery grey bark with orange/brown flakes, elliptic leaf to 14cm x 6.2cm, deep glossy green above with golden brown indumentum below, entire, mucronulate, sides curled down, stout dull purple petiole to 2cm, fat conic green flower bud to 2cm with exserted bracts on up to three basal scales, pale yellow green capsules to 2.5cm with style to 3cm.
