The above specimen is
Astelia pumila (Forst.) Banks & Sol.
It would have been collected by
Archibald Menzies, not on the west coast
of N. America, but on Staten Island
(Isla de los Estados), Tierra del Fuego,
Argentina when he landed there in February 1778,
during a voyage with Capt.James Colnett,
on which he served as naturalist.
