4 Locality: LEBANON: Mount Lebanon: Above Mayrouba.
34°1'5.6"N, 35°46'2.4"E. 1356M.
Habitat: Highly degraded landscape in a steep NW facing gulley
below open-cast quarry. Severe run off in heavy rains due to
deforestation has resulted in a very sparse vegetation cover.
Rhododendron, Juniperus oxycedrus, both scattered. Osmunda
regalis along side stream.
Description: Multi-stemmed shrub to 1 m. Leaves with slightly
revolute margins. Some old fruits persisting.
Associated material: DNA sample
This subsp. of R. ponticum is critically endangered in Lebanon
and known from only 4/5 locations. In all cases the habitat is
degraded to some degree and each location does not cover
more than 100 sq meters.
