Asclepias curassavica L.
Belize: Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary; between Crooked
Tree Village & Western lagoon, c. 1.5 Km from village & 500
m from lagoon.
17°46'37" N, 88°33'41" W
Occasional herb at trackside; copious white latex from stem;
flowers with 5 red petals with yellow corona lobes, anthers
yellow turning orange with maturity.
Seasonally waterlogged savanna with trees & shrubs.
Numerous small trees & shrubs 3-8 m (40%) abundant
Haematoxylon campechiana, frequent Jacquinia macrocarpa,
Crescentia cujete, Dalbergia glabra, Coccoloba reflexiflora,
occasional Diospyros bumelioides, Bucida buceras. Sparse
ground cover (10%) sedge dominated with abundant Cipura
sp. Evidently inundated for prolonged periods, ground flat.
