Flora of Belize Darwin Initiative Project - Developing Integrated Assessment of Biodiversity in Secondary Forest in Belize Melastomataceae Clidemia sericea D.Don Det by Z.A.Goodwin on Aug 07 Belize: Orange Walk District; Rio Bravo Conservation Management Area; ~5 km SE of Hill Bank field station; ~20 m from East Gate track. 17° 32° 17.9" N 88° 42’ 5.6" W (WGS84) Growing in herb layer within a palmetto stand. Altitude: ~20m Open Acoelorraphe wnghtii & Pinus savannah, sandy soil. Frequent shrub with 6 unbranching stems from base up to 1m tall; hairs on stem are silver near apex & reddish brown lower down. Flowers with 4 white petals & 8 pale pink stamens with striking magenta appendages; dark purple fruit with red hairs.
