Low- juncus savanna with very occasional trees and thick juncus obliterating most other herbs. Soil loamy. 17°34'N, 88°42'W. Herb, quite common throughout the savanna. Stem square, red. Lower 2 7 leaves brittle and dry to 0.75 up the stem. Leaves with parallel veins. Calyx ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN -lobed, star-like from below.
