XI L017 The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh MSc Field Course 2013 Myrsinaceae Myrsinaceae Belize District: Cayo Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve; Baldy Beacon; SSE of summit, ~ 50 m W of helicopter landing site. Submontane savanna; on the edge of the scrub with Quercus oleoides. Scrub containing trees to 7 m, 20 cm DBH of Clusiaceae, Melastomataceae, Araceae, Byrsonima crassifolia, Myrica cerifera, Alcornia latifolia, and Clethra sp.. Soil: gray clay with leaf litter. 17°47'22"N, 88°47'22"W Alt: 970 m Tree to 6m high. Bark light grey-brown; mucilaginous and yellow when freshly cut, oxidising to dark orange within 1 minute. Leaves light green above, darker beneath, new shoots green, swollen flexed petiole.
