Alt. c. 100 feet. a & : 1 Tree 83 feet tall, bole 45 feet, diam. ce. 34 inches. Form crooked, and centre infested with black termites. Bark brown and grey, reticulately cracked. Buttresses to 4 feet. Blaze red-brown, sapwood crean, heartwood pinky brown. Flowers on spikes, upright among the current foliage, bright red (RHS colour Red $6C). Perianth splitting down one side as the pistil emerges, and recurving at the apex away from the stigma. This recurved corolla portion somewhat paler on the inner surface, with 3 darker lines running the length, and 4 yellow anthers sessile within the lobe apex. Flowers in FAA.
