Submontane pine savanna on granite at the edge of a dense broadleaf forest on limestone. Growing with Pinus caribaea and Chamaecrista desvauxii. 17°58'3"N, 88°58'3"W Alt: 410 m Herb up to 1.7-1.8 m; slightly woody at base; stem red-brown (same as leaf margin) in color; leaves lime green near the midrib and red-brown at margin; flowers red in bud and transitioning to red-orange when mature. No odor in flower or leaves and without latex.
