Habitat: Track edge in young forest (<16 yrs); forest one month post-hurricane (Dean), thus many trees fallen and very open canopy. Limestone bedrock.; Vegetation: Lowland, tropical, evergreen, broadleaf, seasonal forest: Yucatan variant, canopy 13 m dominated by Cupania belizensis, Attalea cohune, Trophis racemosa, Guazuma ulmifolia & Spondia radlkoferi.
Description: Common small tree, 3 m; flowers white; mature pods bright red twisting to expose black fruit.
