Habitat: Exposed heath and boulder fields
Description: Tufted perennial herb; prostrate in humus pockets among boulders; mat forming and spreading to 50cm; tufts connected by underground stems (usually covered with old leaf remains, roots emerging below branch junction - not true rhizomes); sap milky, sticky. Leaves lime green, soft, not spine tipped, twice divided. Female infructescence to 10cm, seeds green ripening purple. Males and females generally in separate locations - all plants in clump originating from one plant?
Miscellaneous notes: _A. procumbens_ also known from Snowy Mtn Range and Mt Picton. Altitudinal distribution on Hartz Peak limited to top 50m; very restricted
