Habitat: Sub-alpine vegetation on steep rocky boulder slopes. Covered with a few scattered, low trees of Abies nephrolepis but mainly with severly stunted trees and shrubs including: Berberis amurensis, Weigela subsessilis, Sorbus commixta, Prunus padus, Salix caprea, Betula ermanii, Euonymus sachalinensis, Thuya koraienesis (infrequently) Ribes fasciculatus, Quercus mongolica, Acer tschonoskii var. rubripe., Rhododendron schlippenbachii and Rh. yedoensis
