Collecting locality: Belize:Orange Walk:3km from Hillbank Research Station (to the south)
Habitat: Savanna with low shrubs and clumps of trees. Soil silty with occasional limestone outcrops. Found in an exposed position in grass
Description: Herb common. Rhizomatous. Leaves emerging at right angles from stem at clumped intervals along the stem. Old stems woody, stems square, old stems with pale grey bark (splitting to reveal red-brown inner bark).
Miscellaneous notes: Leaves curled up on drying. Many other specimens seen in the field were very branched centrally, possibly due to herbivore attack and recovery.
