Habitat: Montane forest gap with Pandanus brossimus.
Description: Terrestial herb. Leafy shoots in clump, up to 6cm apart, 1.6-1.8 m long, with up to 24 leaves. Base distinctly swollen, 2.5cm diam, brownish-hairy, yellow-green; sheath scabrid, yellow-green, lower sheath dead and pale brown; ligule emarginate, reddish brown; petiole to 4 mm long; lamina to 30 x 7 cm, narrowly ovate, glabrous, mid-green, beneath pale green, base ± cordate. Inflorescence subterminal (by 8 cm) to 15 cm long, pendulous; penduncle pale yellow-green; bracts of inflorescence red when young; spike obpyriform, 9 x 7 cm; pedicel and ovary pale red; calyx pale red; distinctly wrinkled; corolla pale orange; stamen pale orange; stigma cream. Fruit ellipsoid. 3-locular, 20 x 9 mm, orange, pedicel 7 mm long; seeds green, aril red.
