Evergreen shrub to 30cm with pale grey shoots and stems, elliptic/obovate leaf to 2.scem x O.5em, dull deep red above covered in silver scales and pale greeny red below, mucronulate, pale brown capsules to 6mm with style to 5mm. In the Rhododendron lepidotum, R. anthopogon and Juniperus recurva dominant shrubland.
