To the best of my knowledge this plant has never had an Award of Merit and the award recorded in the Rhododendron Handbook (1956) is wrong. On this score, you may be interested to know that on May Ist, 1951 Captain Collingwood Ingram showed a plant thought to be a seedling from seed of L. and S. 6 349 and an Award of Merit was recommended to it, subject to its being named (reference R.H.S. Journal, July 1951 Pp .¥G7. I took up the matter on behalf of the Rhododendron Committee with Dr. Cowan.
