The evidence from indumentum is most veluable and de- cisive for deciding that a plant is not some particular species but it would be rash to use it alone in the present state of our knowledge to decide that a particular leaf is that of a parti- cular species seeing that we know as yet so little about the sub- ject excepting in the few cases that have been investigated. RH. FICIOLACTEUM is one of these investigated cases and I no hesitation about your plant. The other leaves from Chenault's plant seem to me to belong 2 to @ plant which Wilson collected under No. 404 and which he names in Pl. Wilsonianae as RH.LACIEUM. It is not Franchet's plant * and 1 think may prove to be a new species. This we cannot deter- mine until the plant flowers. I ave seen leaves of this from fe Leonardslea and your leaves seem to be of the/character.
