Die einzelnen von einander schwach geschiedenen Formen wurden in der Regel als Varietiiten und Subvarietiten einer Species aufgefasst, welche letzlere die verschiedensten Bezeichnungen erhielt. Simmitliche oben angefiihrten Synonyme beziehen sich, sofern nicht ,p. p.“ beigesetzt ist, speciell auf die hier zur Ausgabe gelangende Form. Dieselbe geht gewélin- lich unter dem Namen C. lineatus Jan, wihrend die meisten Autoren unter €. biflorus Mill. jene Pflanze verstehen, die man am hiufigsten in Cultur trifft, bei welcher die Blumenblatter fiinfstreifig und die Blitter am Rande und Mittelnerv kurz und steif gewimpert sind. Miller stiitzt jedoch seinen C. biflorus hauptsichlich auf das oben angefiihrte Citat aus Parkinson, welcher ausdricklich einen Crocus mit dreistreifigen Perigon- blattern ‘beschreibt, und Miller selbst sagt. dass. die Petalen mit 3 oder ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN 4 Linen gezeichnet scien. Die Heimat der robusteren Form mit den fiinf- EDINBURGH streifigen Blumenblittern und den gewimperten Laubblittern ist der Siid- ll ULLAL osten Europas, und das Gebiet derselben diirfte auch noch nach Asien £01337818 libergreifen.
