Collecting locality: Belize:Cayo:Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve; 0.8 km south of Little Vaqueros Creek.

Habitat: Submontane pine savanna on granite at the edge of a dense broadleaf forest on limestone. Growing with Pinus caribaea and Chamaecrista desvauxii.
Description: Herb up to 1.7-1.8 m; slightly woody at base; stem red-brown (same as leaf margin) in color; leaves lime green near the midrib and red-brown at margin; flowers red in bud and transitioning to red-orange when mature. No odor in flower or leaves and without latex.
