Collecting locality: Belize:Orange Walk:San Felipe savanna; 18Km south of San Felipe-Blue Creek road.
Latitude: 17°46'18''N, Longitude: 88°50'40''W
Habitat: Open savanna with open patches of fine white sand. Frequent Pinus caribaea to 10 m, frequent Byrsonima crassifolia, occasional Myrica cerifera, Camareria latifolia, Coccoloba reflexiflora, Hemiangium excelsum & Acoelorraphe wrightii. No evidence of burn in recent years.
Description: Rare scandent clump-forming herb in dry sandy area; spine-tipped leaves; distinctive purple flowers; painful, spiney magenta and green burrs.
