Poa bulbosa L. Sompl ps 102: Phytogeogr. value: A species of the Irano-Turanian element, very extensively penetrating into the Mediterranean and the Eurosibirian-Boreoamerican regions. From our studies on the phytosociology of this species in some oriental countries during the last 2-3 years, we consider this most important species essentially Irano-Turanian, and nota species of connection of the Eurosibirian-Boreoamerican, Irano- Turanian and Mediterranean regions, as we considered it previously. Poa bulbosa, probably in its different ecotypes and varieties, isa member of numerous associations. But only in the Irano-Turanian countries (e. g. northern Syrian Desert, northern Iraq etc.) or in the Ir.-Tur. enclaves of the Med. and Eursib.-Boreoam. regions, does it reach its full phytosociological value. There it is the leading species of a series of the most important associations or sub- associations, or more frequently of the spring aspect of associa- tions, e. g- Poa bulbosa association, Poa bulbosa—Carex steno- phylla association, Noea mucronata — Poa bulbosa association, Phlomis Bruggieri— Poa bulbosa assoc. etc., where in spring it is the most prominent species. In Med. Palestine P. bulbosa is a leading plant of an as- sociation of a very limited extention, but the genesis of this association reveals rather a secondary origin. In the Irano-Turanian territories ot Palestine, as elsewhere in the Ir-Tur. countries, it is a most important spring plant. Met with also in the Saharo-Sindian territories of Palestine, especially in their less desert parts, but there comparatively rare and less important phytosociologically.
