Habitat: Localised in semi shade in a moist humus rich loam on a steep North East facing hillside of dense mixed woodland with Pinus koraiensis, Abies nephrolepis, Betula costata and Acer caudatum ssp. ukurundense.
Description: Evergreen shrub to 8M x 10M with elliptic leaves to 10cm x 6cm, mid green and glossy above, light green with light brown indumentum below, margin entire. Fruit a green/brown cylindrical capsule to 2.5cm x 0.6cm.
