Habitat: growing on steep rocky sheltered slopes with are clothed in tanglewood, without any big trees
Description: A small gnarled tree. The bright red foliage bud scales are no a feature, these bud scales are persistent for several years.
Miscellaneous notes: (A very similar species, Ward 6302, was collected in the Tsangpo Gorge, November 1924 but no see was secured)
